Night shooting on the Huawei Pura 80 series. How to take pictures in the dark
Remember the times when the onset of darkness automatically meant that there was no point in taking out your phone and trying to capture the beauty of the surrounding world? The bravest tried and then added words to the blurry circles on the phone screen, explaining what we should see and why it was beautiful. Night photography has become one of the features of photography on mobile devices, and companies have gradually improved algorithms, learned to create photos that do not need to be explained, you look at them, and everything becomes clear. Let’s take a look at night photos of the White Mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Agree, the mosque looks very beautiful in the evening, and the night mode has removed all sorts of flaws. In the past, one could only dream of such pictures, now they have become the norm for flagships. These shots were taken on Huawei Pura 80 Ultra, further on, using this model and the Pura 80 Pro version as an example, we will talk about when the “Night” mode is needed, what you should remember when shooting at night and how to improve your photos by understanding the work of algorithms.
Most people prefer to take photos in a point-and-shoot style, and manufacturers try to create automation in cameras that takes this into account.
Additional modes seem unnecessary, moreover, their use often does not give a visible result. Let’s look at a picture of the circus on Vernadsky Avenue, one was taken in automatic mode, for the second the “Night” mode was used.
If you study the pictures carefully, you will either not find any significant differences, or you will say that the picture in automatic mode looks a little better. And I think you will not be mistaken, because the scene itself is quite simple, and the lighting around is enough for the automatic mode to take a high-quality picture.
The “Night” mode always works the same way: the phone takes a lot of pictures for two seconds and asks you to hold the device still. Then, from dozens of pictures taken with different parameters, the phone itself glues the final picture, makes the frame sharper and brighter. The more your hands shake, the fewer pictures you can glue together and the worse the final result will be. The conclusion is simple: if you are photographing in the wind or your hands are shaking, do not try to turn on this mode.
When shooting night views of the city from observation decks, try to secure the camera, make sure it is securely fastened. It is not necessary to carry a tripod with you, you can find a place near the glass or rest your hands on something to take a snapshot.
But most of the shots can be taken without the Night mode, let’s take a look at such shots.
A beautiful picture on different modules, both with optical zoom up to x10, and on the main camera, the shooting principle here does not change. Only the aperture of the lens differs, which affects the quality of the final picture – noisy or less noisy. But the shooting principle is exactly the same.
So when do you need the “Night” mode and why did it appear in the menu? Let’s look at the tower of the Moscow State University building, take two pictures with different magnifications. Here is the normal mode.
I think you see how cameras take photos to a new level, now you are not limited by day or night, the possibilities for creativity are almost limitless. And one more hint: in normal mode, the automatic system sometimes determines the lack of light, a reminder appears that you can shoot in the multi-frame mode, but not for a couple of seconds, but, for example, for one second. Convenient? No word. This is the night mode, which you do not need to specifically launch, the camera does everything for you.
What do I like about the Pura 80 series in terms of night photography? First, we can take such pictures automatically and they will turn out almost perfect (thanks to the cameras and optics, as well as algorithms). Second, you have a wide range of tools to experiment and get different photos depending on the place where you are shooting and what you want to get in the end. From night portraits to landscapes or starry skies, the main thing is to show a bit of curiosity and not be afraid to experiment.
When should you not use the Night mode? For example, you are sitting in a restaurant and trying to take a photo of the moment when the waiter serves food or does something on the table. There is enough light inside for the automatic system to work well and the pictures to be clear, an additional mode is definitely not needed here.
You shouldn’t turn on this mode when shooting from an airplane window either, you won’t get a quality result. The same goes for shooting from a taxi window – you should stand still, remember that the camera will compare the photos and they should be as similar as possible, without any shift.
A few years ago, night shots of such quality were not possible, today Pura 80 Pro/Ultra gives you the tool to save memories at any time of the day, darkness is no longer an obstacle to your creativity. Save any piece of your life as a memory – be it in the dark, at dusk, or at sunset.
